Our Dress Code
At Foundations Dance we want all of our dancers to feel comfortable and confident when they come to class.
Below you will find details on the dress codes for each of the styles of dance we offer.
We recommend that you purchase tights, shoes and dancewear from Madison area’s largest children’s dancewear store, Rosy Cheeks, located on Monona Dr.
Ballet
Dance with Me:
Dancers - comfortable clothing and pink or black ballet shoes
Care takers - anything comfy with socks or dance shoes
Creative Movement and Pre-Ballet:
pink leotard, pink tights and pink ballet shoes
Ballet 1, 2 and 3 through Intermediate Ballet 1A:
black leotard, pink tights and pink ballet shoes
For all other ballet levels we suggest any color leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers.
For male students we suggest a white t-shirt, black pants and black ballet shoes
Jazz
Jazz 1, 2 and 3 through Intermediate Jazz 1:
black leotard, flesh tone tights and flesh tone jazz shoes
For all other jazz levels we suggest any color leotard, flesh tone tights and flesh tone jazz shoes
*Jazz students may add an optional black skirt, dance shorts or form fitting leggings
For our male students we suggest a solid color t-shirt, black pants and black jazz shoes
Tap
Tiny-Tappers, Tap 1, Tap 2 and Elementary Tap:
black leotard, flesh tone tights and black tap shoes
For all other tap levels we suggest any color leotard, flesh tone tights and black tap shoes
*Tap students may add an optional black skirt, dance shorts or form fitting leggings
For our male students we suggest a solid color t-shirt, black pants and black tap shoes
Lyrical, Contemporary, Musical Theater
For our lyrical, contemporary and musical theater classes we suggest form-fitting dance attire and flesh tone jazz shoes, half soles or dance paws. A leotard with flesh tone tights and/or form-fitting leggings is strongly suggested.
For our male students we suggest a solid color t-shirt, black pants and black jazz shoes
Hip Hop
For our hip hop students we suggest wearing a comfortable shirt, pants or leggings and black tennis shoes. Please make sure your tennis shoes are only used for class and are not street shoes.
Acro
For our acro students we suggest wearing a leotard with shorts, pants or leggings and jazz shoes or bare feet during class. Please note that jazz shoes will be required for the recital performance.
Dance Shoe Specifics
Shoes are an important element for our students.
Ballet students should have pink ballet shoes for female dancers and black ballet shoes for male dancers. Please make sure your shoes have leather soles.
Tap students should have black tap shoes.
Hip hop students should have clean black tennis shoes (never been worn outside)
Jazz, Contemporary, Musical Theater and Acro students should have flesh tone jazz shoes for female dancers and black jazz shoes for male dancers.
Lyrical students should have flesh tone jazz shoes, half soles or dance paws.
